Storage FAQ — Cardinal State Storage Lenoir & Hudson

Have questions about storing with us? Here are answers to the most common ones. Cardinal State Storage operates three locations across Caldwell County — call (828) 754-1981 for our Lenoir locations or (828) 728-7744 for Hudson.

What unit sizes do you offer?

Across the Cardinal cluster we cover a wide range. Our 1225 Wilkesboro Blvd location offers 5x10 through 10x30 standard sizes. Our 2116 Hickory Blvd (Lenoir 321) location offers 5x10 up through extra-large 14x50 units suitable for full RVs and large vehicle storage indoors. Our Hudson location at 115 Main St offers compact 5x5 units up through 10x20. All three locations offer outdoor parking for RVs, boats, trailers, and vehicles. Our larger units work well as contractor garage and flex space.

What are your gate access hours?

Our gate is open 7 AM to 9 PM every day, seven days a week, at all three Cardinal locations. Your unique gate code lets you in and out anytime within those hours.

How do I rent a unit?

The fastest way is online through the Rent Now link on this site. You pick a unit size, sign the rental agreement electronically, pay, and receive your gate code immediately — usually within five minutes. To rent over the phone, call (828) 754-1981 for our Lenoir locations or (828) 728-7744 for Hudson.

Do you require a long-term contract?

No. All units rent month-to-month with no long-term commitment. You give a 30-day notice when you're ready to move out — no early termination fees.

Is there a security deposit?

No security deposit. You pay your first month's rent and any applicable admin fee at signup, and you're moved in.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and debit cards. Most customers set up automatic monthly billing through their online account. Cash and check payments can be arranged with the office in advance — call ahead.

Can I store a boat, RV, or trailer here?

Yes. All three Cardinal locations offer outdoor parking. Our Lenoir 321 location at 2116 Hickory Blvd has 14x50 indoor units that accommodate full RVs and large vehicles indoors — useful if you want to protect a higher-end RV or boat from sun and weather year-round.

What about contractor equipment, business inventory, or commercial use?

Yes — we work with contractors, tradespeople, landscapers, small businesses, and anyone who needs contractor garage and flex space. The larger units work well as a small commercial bay at a fraction of typical lease costs — tools, equipment, work-truck overflow, seasonal inventory, documents, and job-site materials.

Do I need to bring my own lock?

We require a disc lock at all three Cardinal locations — padlocks aren't accepted because they're easier to cut. You can pick up a quality disc lock for around $15-$20 at any local hardware retailer: Lowe's, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Walmart, or Tractor Supply. You're the only one with the key — we don't keep copies.

What if I'm moving from out of state or need long-term storage?

We work with a lot of customers moving in and out of Caldwell County. You can reserve and rent a unit online from anywhere before you arrive, get the gate code in advance, and pull straight in when your moving truck shows up. Month-to-month means you keep the unit as long as you need.

How do you handle late payments?

Rent is due on the first of each month. If a payment is missed, you'll get reminder messages by email and text. Late fees apply per our rental agreement. If a unit becomes delinquent for an extended period, North Carolina self-storage law allows the facility to auction the contents — but we work hard to reach customers before it ever gets to that point. Call us anytime if you're in a tough month.

Are you locally owned?

Yes. Cardinal State Storage is locally owned and operated. When you call our offices, you reach a local team member — not a national call center. Decisions about pricing, customer accommodations, and how we run the facilities are made locally. We're part of a small portfolio of family-run storage facilities serving Caldwell County and the surrounding region.

What's the difference between your three Cardinal locations?

All three are part of the Cardinal State Storage cluster with the same ownership and same service. The differences are location and unit mix: 1225 Wilkesboro Blvd is on the east side of Lenoir along Wilkesboro Boulevard; 2116 Hickory Blvd (Lenoir 321) is on the south side along US-321 between Lenoir and Hickory, and it's the only Cardinal location with 14x50 indoor units for full RVs; 115 Main St in Hudson is in downtown Hudson (also US-321A), and it's the only Cardinal location with 5x5 compact units.

Do you serve the Blowing Rock area?

Yes — our Lenoir and Hudson locations are practical off-mountain storage for Blowing Rock (28605) second-home owners. Storing boats, jet skis, RVs, lake gear, and seasonal items at our facilities is more affordable than equivalent storage closer to the resort communities. About 20-25 minutes down US-321.
